True-Script — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

The short version: True-Script keeps your screenplays and settings on your own device. It has no account system, no advertising and no analytics, and it does not send your scripts to anyone. The one thing it contacts a server for is checking for app updates, explained below. This website (true-slate.com) is separate from the app and may show ads from Google; see "Cookies and advertising on this website" below.

Who this policy covers

This policy explains how True-Script (the "app"), developed by Andy Dodd, handles information when you use it. There is no company or organisation behind it beyond the individual developer.

Your scripts

Screenplays you write or import, along with their title pages, story planning, revisions and production notes, are saved in the app's own storage on your device. They are never uploaded. If you import a file (Final Draft .fdx, Fountain or plain text), it is read on your device; the original file is not kept and is not sent anywhere.

Your scripts are included in your normal iPhone or iPad backup (for example iCloud Backup), which Apple handles under its own privacy policy. A script or backup file only leaves the app when you choose to export, print or share it yourself.

Dictate (microphone and speech recognition)

Dictation is optional and only starts when you press Dictate. It uses the microphone and Apple's speech recognition, set to run on your device. If your device cannot recognise speech on the device, dictation is unavailable rather than using an online service.

Your words are turned into text and added to your script. The audio is not recorded, saved or sent anywhere, and the microphone stops when you press Stop, leave the script, or the app leaves the foreground.

Table Read

Table Read reads your script aloud using the voices built into your iPhone or iPad. The speech is made on your device and nothing is sent anywhere.

Your photos, camera and contacts

True-Script does not use your camera, photo library or contacts. The file picker used to import scripts may show your photo library alongside your files, but the app never reads or saves photos.

App updates

To deliver improvements without a full App Store update, the app checks for updates using Expo's EAS Update service. When it checks, Expo's servers receive standard technical information that any internet request involves, such as your IP address, the app version, the platform and the operating system version. No scripts or personal content are included. Expo's handling of that information is described in its privacy policy.

Purchases

Any purchase of the app is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. True-Script does not see or store your payment details.

What the app doesn't do

Cookies and advertising on this website

This privacy policy is hosted on true-slate.com, which is a normal website and separate from the app. This site uses Google AdSense to show ads, which may use cookies or similar technology to personalise the ads you see and measure their performance.

If you're in the UK or EEA, you'll be asked to give or decline consent before any personalised ads are shown. Google explains what it collects and how in its own policy for partner sites.

You can control or clear cookies at any time in your browser's settings. Declining ad cookies doesn't stop the site from working, it just means ads (if shown) won't be personalised to you. The app itself uses no cookies.

Data stored on your device

Your scripts and preferences (such as haptics) are stored only on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app.

Reporting an issue

If you email for support, that email is used only to read and respond to you, kept only as long as needed to resolve your query, and never shared with anyone else or used for marketing.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age. Apart from the update check described above, it does not transmit information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top will be updated and the new version posted at this same address.

Your rights

True-Script itself does not collect or store personal data on any server of its own, so there is nothing held about you to access, correct or delete. For data Google collects through ad cookies on this website, use Google's own privacy controls. If you have any questions, contact support@true-slate.com.
